Design direction — Josh, not yet designed

The pre-chapter (the beginning) should be short, and its should feel ephemoral, notalgic and faded. The photos are all of me in far away shots where space takes up most of the frame (the Ma phylosophy), they're all candid photos where I'm doing something yet not looking or even facing at the camera. They all have a faded and also "through rose tinted sunglasses" feel. I'm imagining this chapter to not have much text at all, and feel like fantasy and dream like, like a distant memory.

This chapter has no title. Josh described it but did not name it; "The pre-chapter" in spine.md is Claude's label and the spine says it should be replaced. Shown here as its number until Josh names it.

chapter 0 does not need a belief, it is just setting the scene for the rest of the story, its just a bit of "world building" if you like, a "where my journey started", it also sets the scene for the design language and how the story will be told, it should take less than 20 seconds to flick through for a user, its more by feel than anything else.

Design direction — Josh, not yet designed

The next chapter, university, should feel fresh and new again. New friends, new life, new objectives, new challenges. This chapter has the most variety, and most extremes. Its the ying and yang chapter. Partying and nights out and socialising at one end, then study grinds, ruthless work hours, long assignments, all nighters studying, working multiple jobs, then finished with a graduation photo to close this chapter.

3. University: no strict episodes, but different themes split: a) making friends, socialising, living b) discovery, education, work. This is not a strict split, but should resemble balance, ying and yang, work life/ social life, and the design and how this chapter is told should reflect that two lane structure.

This is the one chapter whose parts are not chronological. partsMode is lanes, which tells a layout that part order carries no meaning. Document order is preserved regardless, because that is what a screen reader and find-in-page use.

review-2026-08-21 section B: this claim is blocked on facts-to-verify #6 (whether the computer science paper was coincidence or a hedge), and the review argues the chapter's own evidence contradicts the absolute "no use at all". Open question 12 asked for identity or reversibility; this is neither.

Design direction — Josh, not yet designed

The final chapter, EP, should be more serious, yet still with a playful and creative undertone. Large group photos (largest groups out of all the photos here), community driven, this chapter is about the real world and who I am turning into, I have more control than ever, more freedom than every, and now starting to build real things and also rediscover old passions: swimming and running which is the second episode.

Note

Ep has no evolution line since there is no chapter that currently exists after it - and that is deliberate - the way this chapter evolves into the next one is left to me to decide. I am in control in how my story evolves in the future - this has not happened yet, so the story is intentionally not finished, and the design of the website/story/memoir should reflect that as a living journey (also symbolic of software never being finished and always evolving), I may update the website in the future with new chapters, so the site should be built and designed to accommodate for that.

there is no chapter 5, just empty pages after chapter 4.

review-2026-08-21 finding 3: this chapter's belief is about building and its image set contains nothing built. Roughly half the corpus sits in this window and the chapter uses ten photographs of dinners, parties, community service days, swimming and running. The Education Perfect query session is written and unrun.
